Basement Finishing

A basement can often be described as a dark, cold room which no one really goes to that often. However, following a basement conversion it can be transformed and when a basement is finished off they can look absolutely stunning.

Basement finishing when carried out professionally doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! When thinking about basement finishing and the transition of converting your basement from being dingy to being a space you need to consider two items:

·         Radon Levels

·         Suitability

In order for a basement to be deemed suitable for basement finishing the basement must be fully waterproofed. If it isn’t waterproofed then not to worry! A fully waterproofed basements can be easily achieved using a professionally installed waterproofing membrane.

The membrane in the majority of cases will be combined with a sump, pump and alarm and works by allowing a gap between the membrane and the wall. once you can be sure your Basement will be dry, you can then move on to finishing your basement 

This gap allows any free water to run behind it and when the membrane is mechanically fixed to the original sound wall surface and then this is overlaid with treated battens or other dreaming systems. It is then on these that a plasterboard can be fixed and basement finishing can occur.

You need to think about lighting within your basement finishing plans as a light and airy space is a lot better than a dim, dark and dull basement.
