This system is the most commonly used method of drainage in basement projects, the drainage channel is utilised in association with the use and installation of a cavity drain membrane to the walls and floors. The drainage channel (Aqua Channel) would generally be laid around the 'perimeter' of the basement at the wall / floor junctions.
In New Build Projects Prior to the pouring / laying of the concrete base slab suitable provision must however be made for the installation of the drainage channel, this is normally achieved via the temporary installation of suitable size timbers or polystyrene etc at the wall floor junctions (to all locations of the proposed drainage channel), these temporary items are subsequently removed at the time of drainage channel installation. With regard to the sump chamber this is usually installed prior to the commencement of any new floor installation.
The drainage channel is laid following the installation of the concrete base slab and connected to the sump chamber prior to the cavity drain floor membrane (cm 8 or cm 20) being laid.
In Refurbishment Projects the system is installed exactly as above following excavation and removal of the original floor.
Obviously the system can be designed to suit various property layouts or building designs, on occasions various factors may result in a variation to the specification detailed above. Additional provision must also be made for flushing out / future maintenance of the system.
